The periodical Jurablätter was launched in summer 1938 by Emil Wiggli in Solothurn as part of the "spiritual national defence". At that time, the periodical's title was Für die Heimat. In 1949, it merged with the older periodical Der Rauracher. The aim of the Jurablätter was to make the population of the Jurassic cantons, Solothurn and Basel-Country including the district of Laufental (then part of the canton of Bern) and Basel-City, aware of the values of their homeland. With articles and reports on the regional history, geography, ethnology, literature and art, the Jurablätter intended to further the protection of the natural and cultural heritage. It was not a specialist journal, even though it frequently published academic articles.

The Jurablätter were the official organ of the society Gesellschaft Raurachischer Geschichtsfreunde from 1949 to 1997, when the society founded a periodical of its own, the Baselbieter Heimatblätter. The society was dissolved on the occasion of the general assembly in May 2017.
