The "Berner Zeitschrift für Geschichte" has been running since 1939, until 2008 as "Berner Zeitschrift für Geschichte und Heimatkunde".
The journal contains historical essays just as articles about archaeology, art history, educational science, geography, history of literature and linguistics of Bern.
From 1997 onward the journal is avalaible on his own website (www.bezg.ch). The last volume only with the table of contents.
Six cultural institutions have published the "Berner Zeitschrift für Geschichte" together: the "Historischer Verein des Kantons Bern" (Historical Society of Berne), the "Burgerbibliothek Bern", the "Historische Museum Bern" (Museum of History of Berne), the "Staatsarchiv Bern" (Public Record Office of Berne), the "Stadtarchiv Bern" (Town Archive of Berne) and the "Universitätsbibliothek Bern" (University Library of Berne).
The Digitalization was allowed by DigiBern - Bernese Culture and History on the Web. DigiBern is a web offer by the University Library of Berne and includes digitized texts and maps pertaining to the history and culture of Berne city and the canton of Berne.
